The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) is still pushing for the creation of safe zones in the hospitality sector.
Chief executive officer Senator Rudy Grant noted yesterday that while Government had advised that safe zones would come into effect for the hospitality sector on December 1, to date that had not happened and he said the BHTA had received no further update about when they would be implemented.
However, Grant and others believe that such a move was important to creating confidence in Barbados as a safe and desirable destination for visitors.
The CEO informed the BHTA’s Fourth Quarterly Meeting yesterday that the organisation had held discussions regarding safe zones with the Barbados Private Sector Association and was also expecting to meet with the Social Partnership on the matter. (GC)
