Jack Kirby smashed Barbados’ 100-metre backstroke short course record with a second place finish at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships yesterday in Abu Dhabi.
Kirby, who is the Junior Pan American bronze medallist, clocked a new time of 58.82 seconds to place 29th overall.
He erased the old time of 53.94 set by fellow Pirates Swim Club competitor Christopher Courtis.
Fellow Barbadian Alex Sobers is set to compete in the 200-metre freestyle today. (AGB)
