Barbadians who are still unvaccinated are being urged to get inoculated because of the forecast surges of the COVID-19 virus expected over the next month.

Joint coordinator of the National Vaccination Programme, Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand, made the plea yesterday during a nationally televised press conference.

The retired medical doctor said she expects to see a continued rise in COVID-19 infections, as has been registered by public health officials in the first week of the year. She added that a first shot of any of the three vaccine regimes they have would be an important first layer of protection.

Ferdinand said that for those who remained sceptical about having to get multiple shots to be considered fully vaccinated, there was also the option to take the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
