Dr Ronnie Yearwood has dissected the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) manifesto and found it wanting.
He told constituents in Gall Hill, St John, during a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) meeting on Tuesday night that it contained a lot of political “gimmicks”.
Yearwood, a first-time candidate running in St James South, asked: “Where is the vision for Barbados?”
In terms of the proposal to develop 15 mini stadiums across the country, he said: “You can’t get one fix and you gine develop 15? Where the money gine come from? How about investing in youth programmes right here in Gall Hill? How about investing in sports programmes?”
He also dismissed the much-touted plan to make 10 000 homes available to Barbadians. “This is the same Government who just imported homes, putting Barbadians out of work?” Yearwood asked.
When it came to the elimination of land tax for properties valued under $400 000, he said: “But nobody don’t really pay land tax for anything below $400 000 anyway. There is nothing to eliminate. It is a gimmick.” (MB)
