Organisers of the CARIFTA Games are making plans for spectators to be allowed to travel for the region’s most prestigious junior track and field event.
However, the final decision will be left up to the government of Jamaica.
President of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association, Mike Sands, said they were constantly meeting with officials in Jamaica as the Games were less than 100 days away.
“We are hoping that we will be able to have spectators because they add to the excitement of any competition. If they say no spectators, we will have to adapt but we are trying to make it possible,” Sands told Sun Sport yesterday during a telephone interview.
“Spectators will be determined on the conditions. Whatever Jamaica tells us to do we will have to abide by it. We know the Olympic Games were very successful without spectators, so it’s not like we are going into virgin territory where certain things have not happened before.” (AGB)
