Lovely Luvy gave trainer Saffie Joseph Jr his first stakes triumph of the year when under jockey Junior Alvarado, the pair pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory in Saturday’s race No. 10, dubbed the Sunshine Fillies and Mare Turf Stakes.

The race had a purse of US$75 000 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

That victory comes on the heels of a Joseph brace one day earlier at the same venue with his trainees Golden Isle and Stormy Pattern.

Saturday’s featured event went over a distance of one mile and 70 yards and Lovely Luvy, a six-year-old roan mare, who was slow from the gates, raced as the back marker in the six-horse field. (LY)
