609 new virus cases

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 609 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases – 278 males and 331 females – from the 2 303 tests conducted on Wednesday, February 2.

The cases comprised 119 people under the age of 18, and 490 who were 18 years and older.

There were 187 people in isolation facilities, while 11 043 were in home isolation.

An 89-year-old fully vaccinated woman died from COVID-19 on Wednesday, at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility.

As at February 2, the virus had claimed 283 lives.

The public health laboratory has carried out 544 883 tests since February 2020, and recorded 46 506 COVID-19 cases (21 554 males and 24 952 females).

Under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign, the total number of people with at least one dose is 158 869 (69.6 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of people who are fully vaccinated is 147 383 (54.4 per cent of the total population or 64.5 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents people who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
