McConney gives thumbs up to Springer

New Minister of Education Kay McConney has lauded the power of sports in transforming the lives of students while offering them endless opportunities in education or sports related professions.

Speaking with passion, McConney addressed a gathering including Minister of Sports Charles Griffith, chief education officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, permanent secretary Betty Alleyne-Headley, principal of Springer Memorial Mitchelle Maxwell, former student and principal of the Alleyne School Julia Beckles, staff and student/athletes as part of the groundbreaking ceremony for Springer’s 200-metres five-lane track.

“A track like the one we are breaking ground for today transformed my life. And, so I can attest first-hand how physical education and sports can increase the students’ physical health, their mental well-being, their social skills and access to opportunities because my degree was done on an athletic scholarship,” said McConney.
