The Barbados Road Safety Association is “elated” that the long-awaited breathalyser testing will be implemented from next month.
President Sharmane Roland-Bowen said that despite fighting for more than two decades to have it become law, the association was looking forward to it starting on April 1.
“Words cannot express how we in the association feel. It has been long in coming. It has been some long hard days and even nights trying to get this message out there but finally it is here. We want to thank those persons, some of whom have passed, that were instrumental in this. Persons such as Richard Cox, Glenroy Straughan and Victor Roach, who didn’t live to see it.
“We also want to thank former Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley from the Democratic Labour Party administration, who would have pushed for it inside the House of Assembly and with the amendments to the Road Traffic Act. We want to thank and recognise those persons for their part,” Roland-Bowen said. (GBM)
