CCB: No sex around children

Showing children pornographic material or engaging in sexual activities while minors are in the room are also forms of child abuse.

Child Care Officer at the Child Care Board (CCB) Racquel Harewood said many people were not aware those acts were abusive and urged them to stop the practice.

“We have a lot of inappropriate exposure to sexual material which a lot of people do not understand to be sexual abuse. If you show a child pornographic material, that constitutes sexual abuse. A child being privy to sexual activity or being in the room, even though it is not directed at the child, would also constitute sexual abuse. Sometimes people take part in these activities but are not aware what they are doing,” Harewood said.

She was speaking at Sheraton Mall, Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church yesterday during the distribution of blue ribbons where the CCB continued to raise awareness about child abuse. (TG)
