New Democratic Labour Party (DLP) President Dr Ronnie Yearwood says his first goal is to unify the 67-year-old party.

The conference was called following former president Verla De Peiza’s resignation in January, after the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) defeated the DLP 30-0 for the second straight General Election in a three-and-a-half year span.

“Our first task is to unify this party and to bring everyone together. It is a signal to Barbadians, members, supporters, all supporters, who are paid up or not, this party calls you home. It doesn’t matter where you are from, who you are or what your last name is, this party has a place for you, a seat for you. You have room at the table with the DLP,” Yearwood said.

He also made it clear that he would embrace supporters of his opponent Estwick, who served as Member of Parliament for St Philip West from 2003 to 2018 and as Minister of Agriculture under the DLP’s 2008-2018 administration.

“I want to say to persons who voted for David Estwick and for myself, that you are included, you are a part of this project. There is not an old guard, a new guard. This is one DLP family and everyone is welcomed,” he said. (TG)
