Experienced left-handers Raymon Reifer and Jonathan Carter stitched together a half-century stand and put leaders Barbados Pride within sight of a first innings lead over Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the West Indies Championship yesterday in Tarouba, Trinidad.
Reifer was not out on 32 and Carter was not out on 19 in a third-wicket stand of 53 that carried Pride to 87 for two, in reply to Red Force’s first innings total of 133, at the close on the first day of their fourth round match.
It brought a satisfying end to a day that started brightly for Pride after the hosts chose to bat on a typically untrustworthy Brian Lara Cricket Academy pitch, where the batsman have already had to negotiate a few balls keeping low.
Looking to bounce back from their chastening defeat against Guyana Harpy Eagles three days earlier at Queen’s Park Oval in the Trinidad capital, the Pride bowlers, led by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican with 3-21 from 8.2 overs, bowled steadily enough and dismissed Red Force a little before tea.
