There is something wrong when men prefer to take a gun to a fete and show it off as if it was a woman.

So said Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell, who was speaking as she sentenced Chae Kotane Osuje Branch, one of a number of men who were displaying their guns at a fete at a bar in Well Gap, Cave Hill, St Michael, four years ago.

“The prevalence and the ease with which members of the public have access to illegal firearms ought to be and continues to be of grave concern to right-thinking members of the society,” the judge said yesterday.

“There is something wrong in this society where young men seem to have an ammosexual relationship with firearms where, rather than take girls to fetes and show them off, they take their firearms and brandish them about, gloating as if to say ‘look at my girl’. This behaviour has to be stamped out,” the judge declared. (HLE)
