CARIFTA medallist Aren Spencer boosted his chances of selection for the World Junior Track & Field Championships with a lifetime best leap of 7.59 metres in the Under-20 Boys’ long jump during the President’s Classic at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex on Saturday.

Competing for Velocity Management, Spencer surpassed the provisional standard of 7.55 metres for the international junior championship which will be held in Cali, Colombia, August 2-7.

The distance also eclipsed the 7.45 metres which was the standard for the now cancelled Junior Pan American Games, which were originally slated for Brazil, July 21-23.

His clubmate, Dejuan Walcott (7.11) was second while Rising Stars’ Micah Blair topped the Under-18 boys with a leap of 6.38 metres and Misha Nelson (5.27) prevailed among the women.

The multi-talented Spencer has also surpassed the World Under-20 benchmark of 15.55 metres in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 15.80 metres to win the silver medal at the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica. (EZS)
