Major share of renewable energy pie for Bajans

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has given the assurance that ordinary Barbadians will be guaranteed at least a 60 per cent stake in the emerging renewable energy sector.

At the same time, she put the country on notice that Government would be stepping away from the sugar business, making way for a private sector-led industry, buttressed by renewable energy.

Mottley was speaking during an island tour yesterday with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation led by managing director Kristalina Georgieva.

“We are in a position to say that instead of a 100 per cent going to large foreign investors or large local investors, who are consolidated in just a few people, we are saying no.
