GROS ISLET – Pace ace Kemar Roach said a couple of brief stints in the English County Championship helped to refine his bowling and urged his younger teammates to seek out opportunities for growth there.
Roach, the leader of the West Indies pace attack, has been attached to English county team Surrey for the past two seasons and hailed the benefits of exposure to the sport at that level in England, where several of his predecessors have excelled.
The 33-year-old Barbadian earned the Player Of The Match award after he collected seven wickets and spurred the Windies to a seven-wicket victory in the first Test against Bangladesh at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.
His performance propelled him four spots – from 12th to eighth – and into the top ten of the bowling rankings for the first time in more than two years. It’s only one place from his career-best ranking of seventh attained in December 2014. (AR)
