The family of a youth who was gunned down last month has launched the Tyrese Caesar Foundation (TCF) advocating against gun violence in Barbados.

Tyrese Caesar, also known as Ty, 20, of Durants, Christ Church, was one of two men fatally shot on June 29 during a birthday celebration of a young woman in Orange Cottage, Horse Hill, St Joseph. The other man was Trae Harris, 34, of French Village, St Peter.

According to statistics released by Attorney General Dale Marshall during a press conference last week, there have been 17 murders for the year, 12 by the gun.

During the launch of the foundation on Sunday at Heywoods, St Peter, Caesar’s mother Jacqueline, said her son, whom she described as her comforter and best friend, was not made for this world.

“My son spoke in tongues at two-and-a-half years old, and from then, that was his language up to about age nine. My son preached and laid hands on the sick. I am persuaded that my son did not belong to this world. I believe that God is gathering his Heavenly hosts . . . . My life now is for ministry and to carry out the work my son has started,” she told those gathered. (SB)
