Attorney Marlon Gordon’s behaviour in front of empanelled and waiting jurors was the “camel that broke the straw’s back”.
So said Justice Carlisle Greaves as he was forced to order a mistrial in the rape and robbery trial of Akeem Fernando Wickham and Simon Tito Blades in the No. 3 Supreme Court yesterday.
“Yesterday’s outrage, I think, was the camel that broke the straw’s back. I know you’re expecting me to say ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ but that is the weight being attached to it,” the judge said.
Wickham, of Flat Rock, St George, and Blades, of Newbury, St George, were before the court accused of robbing a then 15-year-old girl of her $925 cellphone on September 10, 2012, as well as having sexual intercourse with her without her consent on the same date.
The two were also on trial charged with robbing her then boyfriend of his laptop, two bags, a bracelet and one cellular phone, on the same date. (HLE)
