Weather forecasters issued a flash flood warning from 9 a.m. and until 6 p.m. on Tuesday – but may terminate it sooner if conditions improve.

According to a weather alert from the Barbados Meteorological Service, a tropical wave is currently affecting Barbados, and it is forecast to generate excessive rainfall across the island.

The alert stated current model guidance suggested that rainfall accumulations between 50 millimetres and 75 millimetres are possible for parts of the island and could result in flooding.

Forecasters typically issue flash flood warnings when rapid flooding, due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
