The volleyball fraternity turned out in their numbers yesterday to say farewell to their longest serving president, John Griffith, as he was laid to rest at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens following a lengthy illness.
Griffith, who led the Barbados Volleyball Association (BVA) from 1996 to 2018, was described by current president Kenmore Bynoe as the greatest president to lead the sport.
Speaking before a filled chapel, the large turnout including Governor of the Central Bank Cleviston Haynes; President of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA), Sandra Osborne; and president of the Barbados Football Association, Randy Harris, Bynoe described Griffith as the greatest of the 10 persons to have led the BVA.
“John did not run volleyball; John led, inspired and grew the individuals who ran volleyball in Barbados to create an executive whose work and achievements became the envy of other associations locally and throughout the region. . . (KB)
