Tajio strikes twice

St George’s – A clinical two-goal performance from free-scoring forward Tajio James was not enough to get Barbados their first win in eight matches as Grenada held the visitors to a 2-2 draw in their second international football friendly at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium on Friday night.

The 19-year-old James once again proved to be the hero, scoring in the 19th and 71st minutes to move his tally of goals for Barbados to three in a much improved attacking performance from the Tridents.

But two contentious penalties for the hosts – the first scored by Kriston Julien in the 40th minute and the second by Joshua Isaac in the 83rd minute – ensured the three-match series remained locked heading into tonight’s final showdown at the Kirani James Stadium at 7 p.m.

Centre back Mario Williams started as captain, replacing midfielder Jomo Harris, as Portuguese head coach Orlando da Costa made ten personnel changes to the starting XI which drew 1-1 with the Spice Boys at the Fond Playing Field on Wednesday thanks to James’ stoppage-time equaliser.
