If the law had allowed it, said Justice Pamela Beckles, she would have given the father who twice raped his own daughter and used a sex toy on her much more time in prison.
However, she was fettered by a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, she said.
She called for the legislation relating to the incest of children under 18 to be revisited.
The judge made the comments as she sentenced the father to a starting sentence of nine and a half years in prison yesterday.
“Had it not been for the maximum penalty being only ten years for the offences in this matter, as well as the sentencing guidelines which bind this court, I would have been looking at a much higher sentence and I make no apology for saying that,” Justice Beckles declared.(HLE)
