The boys from Wesley Hall Primary and the female Williams Industries West Terrace Tigers took the top honours when the curtain came down on the 2023 Chefette/Frosteez National Primary Schools’ Athletics Championships yesterday.

Under blazing sun at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex, Wesley Hall Warriors enjoyed a comfortable victory with 117 points. Luther Thorne Memorial were second with 83, just five ahead of eastern powerhouse Bayley’s Primary.

It was a bit closer among the girls with only nine points separating the top two. The Tigers prevailed with 103, Christ Church Girls were second with 94 and some 20 points adrift were Hilda Skeene Primary to take third place.

This year, there would be no sharing of the award for the top performing athlete in each section. Nathan Phillips of Vauxhall Primary and Kaiya Warner-Franklin of Trinity Academy made sure of that, each with a maximum 30 points.

Phillips was king of the Under-9 division, winning the 80 metres (11.52 seconds), 100m (14.41) and 150m (21.73).

Phillips was equally impressive over the 100 metres (13.90), 200m (29.28) and 300m (47.64) among the Under-11 girls. (Nation Sports)
