A 115-foot (35-metre) tower crane is being erected on the site of the Indigo Hotel at Hastings, Christ Church.

As a result, the road from Marine Gardens to St Matthias has been closed and traffic is being detoured.

The work is being done by construction company One Builders to facilitate the building of the Indigo Hotel.

Construction manager/engineer Stephen Every said the tower crane would be done piece by piece using a 200-pound mobile crane.

“We started yesterday. We’re currently erecting a tower crane but this is dependent on weather, especially wind. The time allotted to us is until Monday but hopefully, we’ll finish sooner and get some relief for the motorists,” he said.

Every explained the process involved a slew ring and a jib, adding the tower crane would be dismantled once the hotel construction was completed.

“This whole operation took a significant amount of planning, coordinating with emergency services, the Ministry of Transport and Works, the Transport Board and keeping the public informed, it is not something you just show up one day and do,” he said. (CA)
