The Barbados women’s team were baptised by fire at the Wildey Astroturf yesterday, as they were handed a 20-0 thrashing by Chile in their opening match of the Junior Pan American Championships.

The Barbadian side, captained by Tia Hart and playing in their first international tournament at this level, were down from minute two when Chile’s Monserrat Obon opened the scoring.

Dominga Valdez then doubled Chile’s lead in the seventh minute and Costanza Munoz scored in the eighth to open the floodgates early.

And there was little reprieve for the rookie Bajans. (DG)
