The presence of CARICOM leaders at the Afrixembank annual meeting in Accra, Ghana, is a sign that Africa and the Caribbean are determined to have one homeland.
So said president of the bank and chair of its board of directors, Professor Benedict Oramah, adding it was also an indication that they wanted to “redraw the map of the world to unveil a new continent, the AfriCaribbean continent”.
He was speaking at his bank’s 30th anniversary and annual meeting at the Accra International Conference Centre, where a number of political, business and trade leaders gathered to discuss cementing the unification of the continent and collaborating with the diaspora, in this case the Caribbean.
Among the audience were Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, chair of CARICOM and Prime Minister of The Bahamas Phillip Davis, and Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
“Together, we pave the way for Global Africa to speak with one voice,” Oramah asserted while paying special tribute to the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the pioneer president of Ghana, whose convictions formed the plank on which Afreximbank stood. (AC)
