Barbados has now climbed to a total of seven medals at this year’s Central American & Caribbean Games with bronze from triathlete Matthew Wright and the women’s hockey team.

The hockey girls earned their bronze in dramatic fashion, storming from 0-2 deficit to equalise and then win on penalties against home team Dominican Republic.

At two goals down, they pulled one back off of the stick of D’Jamila Edwards with only 9.5 seconds remaining on the clock.

With the score at 2 – 1 to the Dominican Republic and nothing to lose, after the touch-off the Bajan ladies employed a speedy and clinical full press with all players and managed to win the ball from the Dominican Republic midfield, and drove into the shooting circle just as time expired, while confident there was a near simultaneous infringement in the circle.
