There are reports reaching Nation News that Dr Jens Thraenhart, is no longer with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.

Traenhart was hired Chief Executive Officer in October 2021 to replace William “Billy” Griffith, who had tendered his resignation.

Then BTMI chairman Roseanne Myers said:  “We believe that coupled with Jens’ international tourism experience, proven track record in strategy execution and entrepreneurial perspectives, the BTMI will emerge from this period of the pandemic a much stronger, high-performing destination marketing company that brings increased benefit to our industry and the wider economy.”

Other reports says Thraenhart is to take up a position with the African Asian Union and will be based in Bangkok, Thailand.

While the search for a new CEO ensues, interim, Chief Financial Officer, Craig Hinds, will act as CEO.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Shelly Williams, thanked Thraenhart for his service.

“We have reviewed the BTMI’s business and operations and strategy going forward and we have agreed that the BTMI needs to go in a different direction to ensure the growth of Barbados tourism.

“According to the Central Bank, tourism continues to drive the economy in Barbados, through employment and generating business. Our focus is on making sure we deliver growth by looking at new and emerging markets, increasing airlift and cruise business, and all of the ways that will allow Barbadians to see the financial returns from tourism.” (PR/SAT)
