Earlier today, the Ministry of Health issued a statement regarding the closure of Hill Milling Company Limited.

Yesterday, the Ministry swooped down on the company in Haggatt Hall, St Michael and dumped $600 000 worth of grain which were found to contain weevils.

The following is the statement which was issued.

“The Ministry of Health and Wellness continues to be concerned over environmental conditions at Hill Milling Company Ltd, Roberts Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael, particularly in relation to the rat infestation discovered there.

The Chief Medical Officer and senior members of the Environmental Health team visited the premises on Wednesday, August 23, and found evidence of active rodent infestation.

At present, the current situation is not conducive to the production of food at the facility. Although there has been some progress made in correcting the issues, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is not in a position to give clearance for production to continue, from a public health perspective.

Additionally, the Ministry can confirm, based on the inspection carried out, that there is no active production of food at the property.

For the past two weeks, the team from the Ministry of Health and Wellness has been at Hill Milling Company Ltd inspecting food products that are in storage. Health authorities are in the process of condemning and destroying any food that is deemed unfit for human consumption.

The Ministry will continue to work with management at the company to have this matter resolved in the shortest possible time”. (PR)
