Franklyn: PM should fire Minister of Education

In any other democracy, the minister would have taken responsibility for the “debacle” at Springer Memorial Secondary School.

And after participating in a protest march from Kensington Oval through The City to Independence Square on Saturday to highlight ongoing issues in Barbados, head of the Unity Workers’ Union (UWU), Caswell Franklyn, said the minister must be held to account.

“What happened at Springer [Memorial School] was complete stupidity and … we are saying that somebody must be held to account. Normally when something as serious as this happens, a minister should go, and in this case, the Minister of Education should go. If she is unwilling to tender her resignation, then the Prime Minister [Mia Amor Mottley] should fire her,” Franklyn said

“In any other democracy a minister would have taken responsibility for it, only in Barbados you can do what you like and get away with it. We are fast becoming a banana republic because no rules or decency apply anymore,” he charged.  (Nation News)
