Relegation confirmed.

The Barbados senior men’s national football team suffered the embarrassment of dropping to League C of the Concacaf Nations League after a 4-0 home defeat to Group B leaders Nicaragua on Friday night at the Wildey Turf.

A couple of goals in either half from Junior Arteaga, Nextaly Rodriguez, Luis Coronel and Jacob Montes maintained Los Pinoleros’ 100 per cent record in the competition and confirmed their promotion to League A following disqualification last year for fielding an ineligible player after topping their group.

Montserrat, three points ahead of the Bajans in third, captured an unlikely 2-1 home victory over the Dominican Republic on Friday night and played a part in both the Tridents’ relegation and Nicaragua’s promotion.

Playing in front a home crowd of just over 700 patrons, including West Indies cricketers Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, Shane Dowrich, Kyle Mayers and Carlos Brathwaite as well as England’s Barbadian-born seamer Chris Jordan, the task of getting three points to avoid relegation was always a daunting one for the Barbadians.
