Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich has been named in a 13-man Barbados Pride squad for next month’s start of the regional first class championship, two months after abruptly announcing his retirement from international cricket.
The 32-year-old is part of a unit that will be led by Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, and includes West Indies players Raymon Reifer, Akeem Jordan, Jomel Warrican, Shayne Moseley and Chemar Holder.
Batsman Zachary McCaskie, who is yet to earn an international cap but is part of the West Indies squad currently in Australia, has also been named in the Pride line-up.
Dowrich was recalled to the West Indies squad for the first time in three years when he was picked in the one-day squad to face England in a three-match series last December.
However, he abruptly called time on his career with “immediate effect”, leading to his withdrawal from the 15-man squad just days before the start of the series in Antigua.
Dowrich averaged 57 in the shortened first class campaign last year after being appointed captain, hitting an unbeaten hundred against Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
Holder, meanwhile, makes his return to first class action following a two-year break. The 25-year-old, who played a single Test nearly four years ago, featured for Combined Campuses and Colleges in last October’s Super50 Cup, claiming four wickets from four matches.
Former captain Shamarh Brooks, 35, who has played 13 Tests and 29 one-dayers, is one of eight reserves in the Pride squad
Cricket West Indies is yet to announce the official dates or playing venues for the tournament.
