Support for Seaview Terminal

Long time coming.

That is the general feeling about the move to build a proper public service vehicle (PSV) terminal in Cheapside, The City.

On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works (MTW) Santia Bradshaw said a new terminal, called the Seaview Terminal, would be built on the site.

It will feature a concourse for commuters, offices, a police outpost, shops and bathroom facilities. An area will also be reserved for vendors adjacent to the terminal. Construction is scheduled to begin in the upcoming financial year.

Director of public communications and public affairs at the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) Mark A Haynes gave the move glowing praise but cautioned the need for maintenance and security.

“You cannot have a terminal and it is unsecured and unregulated. Personnel have to be posted to ensure it is maintained properly. We encourage Government to look at things such as cleaning staff and especially security, but we also urge commuters to please respect the space when it is built, and keep it clean and safe,” he said, adding the Constitution River Terminal (CRT), while not perfect, was a good model which the upcoming Seaview Terminal could emulate.

Haynes said the AOPT had long held the view that the Cheapside Terminal needed to be cleaner and feature shelters so the announcement was commendable and would be welcomed by the travelling public.
