March 11 has been stamped as the opening zonal day of this year’s Dasani Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships (BSSAC), despite ongoing renovations to the Ryan Brathwaite Track at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

New BSSAC committee chair and principal of the Coleridge and Parry School, Sonja Goodridge, said she received assurance from officials at the University of the West Indies (UWI) that the track will be prepared in time for the secondary school meet.

“I’m happy to report that I have touched base with the management of the Usain Bolt Sports Complex and they have assured me that the Ryan Brathwaite Track will be ready for the staging of BSSAC in March 2024. They are working assiduously all now,” she said yesterday at the official BSSAC launch held at Harrison College.

Goodridge announced a change to the zonal structure from last year’s three zones to now two zones which will house 14 schools each.
