Six-time Carifta gold medallist Adara Stoddard made waves at the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming Championships when she broke the University of Little Rock Arkansas school record in the 200-metre breaststroke, over the weekend.

The former Christ Church Foundation student also created a new personal best when she swam two minutes 16.97 seconds. Although she placed seventh in the final, she was the only freshman to make an appearance there.

Stoddard spoke with NationSport about this new milestone in her swimming career.

“I was not expecting to go under two minutes 20 seconds which has been my goal for some time.  When I saw the clock saying two minutes 18 seconds in the prelims, I was very surprised but it made me extremely confident. I was swimming two minutes 22 seconds leading up to the meet. Now that I have broken my previous goal, I am aiming to get in around two minutes 14 seconds going forward,” said the fast-rising Stoddard.
