PORT OF SPAIN – Skeletal remains, suspected to be those of an 18-year-old woman, were found on Tuesday in Valsayn.

The Express was told that at about 10 a.m., officers received intelligence that led them to a home off Butu Road, South Valsayn.

When they arrived, they found several people in the house.

Police dug into the backyard.

At about 3 p.m., they discovered the remains about a foot deep in the earth.

The remains are believed to be those of Hannah Mathura.

A team of officers from the North Central Division and the Homicide Bureau, led by Snr. Sup Richard Smith, Sup Douglas, and ASP Ramharack, responded.

The Express was told by senior officers that on Sunday they were given information that the body of a woman had been buried there since 2017.

One of the older children, the Express was told, had been allowed to leave to go to work to bring money in for a male adult at the home.

However, he was usually closely monitored.

During one of the times he left the Valsyan home, he managed to notify the police of what was transpiring, and his concerns that Mathura had been missing for about seven years and that she was suspected to have been buried in the back yard.
