Head of the local Roman Catholic Church, Bishop Neil Scantlebury, is concerned about the number of homicides and suicides.
There are also too many children being abused, he said, encouraging more Barbadians yesterday to repent and pray.
Scantlebury was appealing to those who gathered at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Jemmotts Lane, St Michael, at the start of the 5th annual Our Lady of Fatima Marian Pilgrimage.
“There are just too many people being killed, being shot. Too many people have committed suicide and there are many who may have thought about suicide over the year. We need to have peace in our families. Too often we find husband and wife or mother and father arguing and fighting in front of the children.
“We need that healing power for us to turn away from our sins within our families. Unfortunately, we find there are things that are happening that should not be happening – abuse of children and abuse of men and women. We need to pray for an end to these things. We need to pray for peace, that people will have a peace of heart and a peace of mind as they go about their daily lives,” Scantlebury said. (TSG)
