Residents in St Stephen’s Hill, Black Rock, St Michael, say they continue to suffer from a stench emanating from a dirty canal which runs behind their homes.

Carlotta Roach told the DAILY NATION the canal had not been cleaned for several months and it was filled with stagnant water and debris, and had grass and shrubs growing in it.

Roach said she had reached out to her parliamentary representative Ian Gooding-Edghill, health inspectors at the Branford Taitt Polyclinic in Black Rock and the Drainage Department, which is the agency responsible for cleaning the canal, but no one had turned up to do so.

She said the long canal which stretches behind the houses in her district was also in need of repair since Hurricane Elsa had damaged the concrete base around it.
