There has been a resurgence of major infrastructure projects in the Caribbean as regional economies rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic downturn.

Gillian Charles-Gollop, executive director, corporate banking and sustainable finance, corporate and and investment banking, at CIBC Caribbean said this was evident in the tourism, renewable energy, and transport and logistic sectors.

She gave update last Thursday during a webinar on Caribbean Infrastructure: Emerging Headline Trends and Opportunities. The discussion was a precursor to the Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF), which is scheduled to take place on September 24 and 25 in Miami.

Charles-Gollop said that a number of major infrastructure projects were ongoing, noting that a driving force was the fact that “tourism has really bounced back and exceeded expectations in a number of the territories”. (SC)
