The Grantley Adams International Airport is aiming to reopen at 9 p.m. tonight, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, while visiting fisherfolks at the Bridgetown Fisheries today, confirmed that the airport sustained minimal damage and that all systems and navigational tools are operational.

“We needed to make sure that all of the systems, navigational tools, and other things were working. They have literally just called back and have indicated that they don’t think they can make 7 p.m. but will aim to open for 9 p.m. tonight,” said Mottley.

The reopening is crucial for many people stranded on the island due to cancelled flights since yesterday evening.

Prime Minister Mottley noted the importance of resuming flights to allow stranded passengers, including some cricket teams, to depart.

“I spoke with American Airlines and they’re putting on additional flights to be able to get people out and I have no doubt the other airlines will do the same,” she added.
