Prisoner escapes custody at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

At 9:45 a.m today police were alerted to the escape of a prisoner from custody while receiving medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

The escaped prisoner, Mario Austin, 31, previously of Blackman’s Tenantry, St. Joseph, was in the custody of prison officials at the time of his escape.

Austin had been charged with the offence of robbery.

Police and prison officers have been seen searching the old Ministry of Health compound and the districts near the QEH and lower Bay Street. 

Any person seeing this Prisoner may contact police emergency at 211 or any police station.
