The most common cancer in Barbados is prostate cancer despite the fact that it only affects men.

That’s according to Dr David Rosin, president of the Barbados Cancer Society (BCS), who was speaking yesterday at the start of what is called Movember in recognition of prostate cancer month.

Rosin said approximately 320 men in Barbados develop cancer of the prostate every year and more than 300 die from the disease every year. Yet, he said prostate cancer was one of the five cancers across the world that was less likely to cause death, despite it being the second most common cancer in men.

He was speaking at the Movember Prostate Cancer Campaign Launch at the office of the Jada Group of Companies, Black Bess, St Peter, where Cemix Concrete launched a testing campaign.
