The dilapidated house at Laundry Road, Garden Land, St Michael, which residents relentlessly called for to be demolished has partially collapsed, due to the recent heavy downpour of rain.

Residents told the MIDWEEK NATION

that the roof collapsed and as a result a significant portion of the old house also crumbled.

When the NATION first highlighted the unoccupied house back in July, it was dangerously leaning to the side.

Residents said they had made several reports to the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) as they feared that it could collapse and possibly injure someone. Since its publication residents said a group of persons descended in the area to inspect the property.

“We saw a group of people come here one day and they were just looking at the house but nobody came back and nothing was done about it,” a resident said.

She said their worst fears were realised when the galvanised roof and pieces of wood blew off into the road but luckily no one was passing by. The house has not been occupied for decades.

The debris has since been secured at the side of the property but the residents are renewing calls for the EPD to remove the rubble and pull down the remainder of the house as they pointed out that it still posed a danger.
