Men are being encouraged to get screened for prostate cancer, and as soon as they can.

Dr Denise Walters-Payne, daughter of late educator, former senator and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Arni Walters, made the appeal while celebrating her father’s life during his official funeral service yesterday at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, The Ridge, Christ Church.

“Cancer is going through lots of older people and younger people. We need to support men and have these conversations. You need to encourage men to get checked out. Don’t be shy about it. You need to do this because it can save your life or make you live a few more years,” said Walters-Payne, a dentist based in the United Kingdom (UK).

Her father – the son of the late Gordon Walters after whom the primary school in Christ Church was renamed – passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 19, ten days shy of his 78th birthday. He was a father of three and grandfather of four.

Walters lived in the UK and was married to Jennifer Francis, but later married Anita Walters. (TG)
