Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley warned the people of the Caribbean the tariffs imposed by the United States would impact everyone, whether it was through the purchasing of food, clothing or electronics.

In her capacity as chairman of CARICOM, Mottley said this would have a spillover effect on the tourism industry of the member states since people in the source markets would have reduced spending power. She urged countries to grow their own and buy local.

In a message to United States president Donald Trump, she said the region was too small to have an impact on their economy.
