Barbados will be making waves at the 2025 NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) Regional East Coast Championships with a formidable six-member junior squad at the premier amateur surfing competition.
Set to come off from April 30 to May 4 at New Smyrna Beach, Florida, the event is a key fixture on the United States East Coast and Caribbean surfing calendar.
Executive director of the NSSA Caribbean conference, Alan Burke of Barbados, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bring home top honours, calling them “six of the very best up and coming juniors in Barbados, the United States East Coast and the Caribbean”.

Burke said that a strong performance at this prestigious competition could serve as a major confidence boost and potentially launch the young surfers’ professional careers.
Leading the charge is standout performer Tommaso Layson, whose track record speaks volumes. In 2023, Layson clinched first place in the Open Junior division, placed second in Explorer Boys, and finished third in Explorer Men at Regionals. In 2024, he topped the Explorer Men’s division and secured second place in the Open Men. (ML)
