It is a cosmic phenomenon to see stars when the midday sun is blazing in all of its glory but that rarity was witnessed by spectators who turned out on Sunday to see the exciting quarterfinals of the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Junior Road Tennis Tournament at the Belfield Court.
The brightest star was the smallest as eight-year-old Thimari Greenidge booked a spot in Saturday’s semifinals by outplaying Micah Volney 21-10, 21-11. Flashing a spectacular backhand and matching forehand, the St George Primary School student Greenidge left spectators and Volney in awe.
Greenidge will next meet the defending primary schools’ champion Nyal Bushell after the cocky Barbados table tennis player dismissed Tajayri Dawson 21-10, 21-11. The other semis’ clash will see Demani Sandiford battling Nicholas Alleyne.
