The utility has urged people to “exercise extreme vigilance” in light of the recent spate of robberies.
“There is a heightened risk that fraudulent individuals may impersonate legitimate Light & Power employees to gain unauthorised access to private residences and places of business,” vice-president, operations, Johann Greaves, stated in a release yesterday.
Remain alert
“We are urging our customers to remain alert and take steps to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the company before allowing them entry into their homes and businesses.
“We appreciate the trust our valued customers and the community places in us and assure them that we take matters like this very seriously, and their
safety and security remain among our highest priorities.”
BL&P reminded customers that most of the work its personnel performs is completed on the outside, including the ongoing AMI meter replacement programme in parts of Christ Church and St Philip, and connection of services.
“If customers are expecting a visit from Light & Power personnel, confirm it by calling our customer care hotline, 626-4300. If someone claiming to be an employee of the company arrives unexpectedly or cannot provide satisfactory identification, refuse entry and contact our customer care team. In an emergency, call the police,” it added.
