Phase 1 of the Performance Arts Centre in Newton, Christ Church, is scheduled to be handed over to the National Cultural Foundation tomorrow, ahead of the start of CARIFESTA XV. This is according to communications consultant with the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc., Joy-Ann Haigh.

“The structure is just one part of an entire cultural village in the Christ Church area,” she said.

Sir David Adjaye, who also designed the slave monument in Newton, is credited with its design.

According to the CARIFESTA XV calendar, the space will be used for theatre arts, for a Ghanaian production and a national production entitled A Tribute To Burgie, in honour of the late Irving Burgie, the man who wrote the lyrics of the National Anthem.

The Sunday Sun visited the construction work site yesterday, where several cranes where seen in operation. (SG)
