Colin Munro blasted the first century of the 2025 Caribbean Premier League to pilot Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to a thrilling win by 12 runs over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on Sunday morning.

The powerful left-hander made 120 from just 57 balls with an emphatic strike rate of 212 which included 14 fours and six sixes. It was the highest score for TKR in the 13 years of the competition, bettering the 102 not out by Nicholas Pooran in the 2023 season.

TKR showcased their power in this their first match of the season to reach 231-5 off 20 overs – the highest score of the four matches played so far. In reply the Patriots made 219-7 off their 20 overs. Captain Jason Holder topscored with 44 of 22 balls with 30 coming in boundaries, but when he fell at 189-7 at the end of the 19th over the game was effectively over. They were no match for Pakistani mystery spinner Usman Tariq who wore a red bandana as he grabbed four wickets for 33 runs in his first CPL appearance.

It was Munro’s second century in CPL – bringing him level with Faf du Plessis as the most by an overseas player. TKR got off to a great start as Munro added 114 off 55 balls for the first wicket with Alex Hales, who made 47 off 27 balls with four fours and three sixes. The tempo was maintained by some big-hitting from Kieron Pollard (19) and Keacy Carty (16 not out) towards the back end of the innings. Holder was effective with the ball taking 2-40 while spinner Waqar Salamkheil bagged 2-47.

The tournament continues on Sunday night when Antigua and Barbuda Falcons host defending champions Saint Lucia Kings at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. (PS)
